Looking to buy a new Walther target pistol.

Not sure whether I will be going with the GSP or plunge right into the deep end with a SSP-E

I found a few Canadian sources but would appreciate recommendations.

And, wondering if it is worth importing from the States or the EU (if that is even possible).

Thanks in advance

John

Air Guns Plus dotca is the Olympic Walther HQ, they carry the guns and any spare parts. I've had good service from them.

As to choice of models, are you going to shoot in .32 as well as .22? I use a GSP Expert full kit in both calibres, and it's quite the pistol. Despite being based on the older GSP frame for some compatibilities, the improvements are significant.

If going for the SSP in .22 only, the E-trigger is the one I'd be after, too. There's still skepticism among the enthusiast community about electronic trigger reliability over a lifetime (well-founded on some previous examples). I dunno, I have no problems with various finely tuned mechanical triggers.

(Cue the people telling you to buy a Pardini instead. I won't get into that…)

Thanks for the info.

Likely only .22

I plan on doing a lot of dry firing and perhaps get a laser set-up for home training.
My research seems to indicate the e-triggers are best suited to extensive dry firing.

Also, my firearms philosophy, (thankfully shared by my wife), has always been to "buy something once".
Hence the gravitation towards the SSP-E even though it is likely a far better pistol than I will ever need.

Hi John

Have you tired other pistol with electronic triggers or target pistols? I’m asking as I’m from Ottawa and have few targets pistols you could try. Sadly not an SSP or SSP-e yet.

Many serious ISSF style shooters get an air pistol to do live practice in their homes as much as they want. Yes the gun and grip and trigger and process aren't quite the same, but the real target feedback helps a lot. Buy a Walther air gun to go with your Walther powder burner, it will feel more similar.

Regulation 10m is hard to achieve in many homes (especially if the wife doesn't want you pinging across the living room near her fine china!), but scaling the targets accounts for that; Air Pistol targets are already scaled Standard Pistol targets anyway. Box with an angled plate covered in duct seal putty, hang it against a piece of carpet so the impact doesn't reverberate, you can google such plans. The chances of a shot going outside your pellet trap are very slim, because the chances of you shooting even outside the black are very slim, right? (Note that your municipality may consider discharging an air gun the same as a real gun, but how will they know?)

‘Buy once, cry once’ is often wise advice. But double edged: what if you decide in the future to do centre fire disciplines? Now you need the calibre convertibility of something other than the SSP…

Walther used to make a practice trigger unit for the older GSP/OSP pistols. It has a non-striking hammer with five notches, so you could safely dry fire five times after cocking. I got one of those things I'm not using with my GSP Expert, I should probably get around to putting it on the EE.
