I recently bought a LH 870 with wood stock and now looking at additional barrels/chokes. My question is - will a standard 870 barrel fit the LH model or will it have to be LH specific? I won't be picking up the gun until later this summer so I can't disassemble and visually compare the parts until then.

You'll need left hand barrels, but chokes have nothing to do with the receiver. Regular choke tubes will do nicely.
I'm not seeing any left hand barrels on Remington's site though, but they do exist. Hastings, an aftermarket barrel maker, does 'em too. Most likely a special order thing.
Been using a right hand 870 for eons with no fuss. Never bothered with a proper sided shotgun myself.

It has to be left hand specific. Unfortunately Remington does not even list left-hand replacement barrels on their website.

I had been looking for another shotgun and the 870 was too good of a deal to pass on. I guess I'll keep it as my bird gun and look for M500 barrels for my other shotgun. BTW, I've always shot right hand guns without issue as well. It may turn out that I will prefer the right hand models. We'll see.

No. I am a leftie too and you are out of luck. No barrels for a left hand 870 and they other barrels do not work. There is one on the ee for sale and if I had choice I would buy a nova and have the safety switched or buy a mossberg 500 with a tang safety.
