So, I was checking out my gun room the other day and was not happy to notice that my coyote gun has a crack in the pistol grip.
I think it can be pinned and glued to be almost like new. However, I am wondering if there is anyone in Canada who could make a stock for me. I checked with Boyds and they don't supply a LH stock for the Sako M591. Any other suggestions?

Spend the bucks on a McMillan?

Someone will post about a Canadian synthetic stock maker... good quality but I don't remember the name...

I am not so concerned about cost. I want a stock that fits me. The Sako factory stock with the palm swell was perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look up the MacMillan website.

If you can afford a McMillan stock, go for it. They will custom make it to your length of pull. I have one that's over thirty years old and the rifle has never changed POI that can't be fixed by cleaning.

As for pinning, that's just part of your fix. Sounds like you need a bedding job as well.

I've repaired such cracks, one just recently on a Sako A7. Cleaned the crack out with alcohol, let it dry, then squirted in some CLEAR GORILLA GLUE, thinned out with acetone to enable it to flow into the crack. Lovely piece of figured Walnut on it, so didn't want to pin it.

The bedding had deteriorated, strange as recoil isn't severe on this rifle. Maybe just drying out???

Anyway, I suggest a glass bedding job, which may even repair the crack at the same time.

stoegercanada.com is the distributor. Maybe they have a spare on hand?? Doubtful.

Richardson's Microfit make nice laminated stocks. Might require a bit of work on your end to put on though

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to take the stock to my local gunsmith and see if he thinks gluing, as you suggested, will hold. This will at least get me a functional rifle again.
Then, perhaps, I will look at replacing the stock.
