Minister Blair and Staff,
Thank you for taking the time to read my email.
We have an opportunity to generate real positive results for many Canadians with this recent mandate that you were issued. I'd strongly encourage you to looking at increasing the number of Police Officers in our cities, tackling the growth of organized crime and gang culture within, and beefing up border security.
Canada sits in the unique position of having the longest unprotected border with one of the largest and most pro-gun countries in the world, a ban on Pistols and 'Assault' rifles will mean nothing without securing the border first, and that begins with increased funding to our current, regular border crossings.
Studying the initiatives and results of other nations will produce little comparable evidence because of that same border. I believe that the greatest way to reduce violent crime would be to increase the police presence in our street, enhance the funding of our Border Service Agents, and specifically target the means by which gangs generate revenue.
The Liberals often speak of inclusion and inclusiveness, being accepting of other cultures, and being good global citizens. I share many of those values, but feel targeted by the recent rhetoric regarding the ban of firearms. This rhetoric is not just an attack on a hobby, its an attack on the character and moral integrity of those who already follow the law. This inherently creates a divide between many Firearms Owners and the current Government.
I ask you, as a Firearms Owner, an Ex-Military Member, a Homeowner, Taxpayer, and as a Gunsmith; Can I count on you to create real tangible change in how we handle organized crime in society, rather than targeting the already Law Abiding Citizens who can only legally discharge these firearms at federally approved ranges? Can we stop the adversarial criticism that seems to be coming from both sides and work together, to our mutual strengths, to improve this country for all residents? Can we work together to create a better Canada, without legislating away an entire culture and way of life?
2 Million Licensed Firearm Owners are not the ones causing these horrible tragedies in our cities, but like you, we want the people responsible to be held to account.
I sincerely appreciate the time you've taken to read this email.
My Kind Regards,
Well written! Concise, complete, respectful.
If every person who reads this thread were to write a similar letter as this and address it to your local MP, Bill Blair, Ralph Goodale, and Justin Trudeau, it would be a step in the right direction. I am composing my letter now and I will compose a new letter every two weeks.
We need to take action now and thousands of letters is a good start. Complaining to one another within the confines of this and other social media "echo chambers" will do nothing for us.
