On the firearms licence renewal there is a box to check if you hunt to "sustain" yourself or your family. On the information page it has a box titled "Sustenance Hunter"
Hunting for "Sustenance" is different than the "Subsistence" rights granted by various government treaties to select groups of the population in Canada. This is easy to differentiate when looking up the definition of the two words in the dictionary.
If you hunt and eat what you harvest, you are a " Sustenance" hunter by definition.
I have called the provincial cfo and questioned them in regards to this and they do not have a written definition as to what qualifies as a "Sustenance Hunter" which I find odd.
Has anyone on this forum qualified as a 'Sustenance Hunter" that is not party to a government treaty granting a "Subsistence" way of life? I would be interested in the particulars of the criteria that had to be met.
Fyi, i am not looking to avoid the cost of licence renewal, only gain the same rights as all people that hunt for "Sustenance" should have
