Thanks for reading,
Going to take a trip to Grande Prairie to see my son, he has a small farm, I want to shoot gophers, what do I need to do this? (other than guns that is) ;).
Thanks for any help, Gunmedic.

I'm from BC and have been in Alberta for the last 3 weeks...

I spoke with a CO in regards to this...

As long as you have a firearms license and you are 200 yards from the road you are good to shoot as many gophers as you want...

With that said sometimes it is hard to get 200 yards off the road so when I am on gravel roads or shooting gophers in my in-laws fields I don't even think about the distance because the little pests come right to the road so you have to get them too... :) :)

Huntinstuff,
Not too sure, last time I was there, we had a freezing rain weekend, and got grounded in town, so, not sure, my son is scouting. May have to do a little bit of driving.

I have been shooting gophers in Alberta for 50+ years, and I have never heard of this 200 yard from road requirment?

From the age of 14 and under, my Grandpa would throw me in the box of the truck in the Bonnyville area and he would drive down the farm roads slowly and spot them for me and i would whack em as we drove. My Grandfather was a well known man in the area and everyone welcomed it. My how times have changed.:(

The 200 meter thing is BS. As long as you are off the "road allowance" this includes the ditch, 10 meters from the center line is the norm for grid roads. Don't go by the fence line because 90% of farmers are farming the GOV'T road allowance.

road allowance is 66 feet :D

it's all based on survey chains (gunter chain)

and if you look on most land deeds from the time a section is listed as 318 acres plus or minus

Never seen GH in the GP area

10 meters from center line or 66 feet for the whole road allowance sounds about the same to me, but a section is 640 acres! eh?
