Life Expectancy of a SKS?

The full auto milled AK's at Battlefield Vegas have north of 100,000 rounds through them, and they are still going strong. Stamped AK's failed (cracked receivers) at 60,000-80,000 rounds.

A neat video on this topic, albeit with an AK. 20,000 rounds without cleaning.

Well, mine's a '51 Tula and I'm a '50. With the 'current Emperor' I expect to out-live it.
Maybe I can stop cleaning so obsessively ??

Still an interesting thread. In fact, often times the older threads are more informative.

I agree...if it is technical discussion, I find older threads quite educational.

I'm just amazed by how many surplus and historic guns have lasted the test of time. I once had an opportunity to shoot something made in the 1930s with ammo from the 1960s and everything functioned perfectly. There's not a whole lot of other items from that vintage that will continue to operate without issues.

I just wish I had listened to my coworker who was telling me in 2012 or so about an SKS he bought for "only" $175. I thought it was a travesty he paid "that much" for an "old relic". Well, I was ignorant and dumb back then (not much has changed) but I recently did talk with him and I brought it up, sheepishly telling him I have a few now, and when he asked what I paid for mine I gave him a "no comment".

Those who had the foresight to buy these by the crateful 30-40 years ago are probably smiling ear to ear now.

Iv probably eaten up 4000 rounds with my Norinco SKS, i have replaced an extractor spring and a firing pin. But She just keeps eating all my 7.62X39mm. i ALWAYS give her the love she deserves after a day at the range.

But how long can i expect it to live?

After how many rounds will i see my groups permanently open up?

How many rounds do you have through your SKS? And what did it take to keep her alive?

Will the gun become dangerous to fire after X amount of rounds?

What do you mean when you say, "expect it to live?" What parameters are you asking about?

If you are talking about accuracy, its an SKS, how would you know?

Modern guns don't typically become "dangerous" to shoot with use. Also, parts can be replaced.
