I plan on picking one up shortly. The price on the rifles seems like a pretty amazing deal (same with the ammo) Just wondering how much shooting I should get out of a refurb? Also I have read acouple threads about corrosive ammo, how would I tell if its corrosive or not and is most surplus stuff corrosive?

Should be alot of shooting life left in these rifles. I bet most people will not be able to afford enough ammo to burn out the barrels. You should be good for a minumum of 5k rounds, and most likely 10-15k like DAR stated. Go buy one of those rifles, barrel life won't be an issue. Treat all surplus ammo as corrosive and the barrel will most likely outlive you.;)

That's what I love about milsurps. They had to survive a war, and they were built to.

Quite unlike a lot of the commercial guns these days - look at it the wrong way in strong sunlight and all the plastic will fall off :p Keeeeeeeeeding

Yah - your sks will do well as long as you clean all those corrosive salts out with hot water or windex, then re-oil after every shooting.

The 7.62X39 round isn't a powerhouse cartridge and I think it would survive a ton of shooting. The weak spot on these guns seems to be the wood.Artic Burch sometimes develops hairline cracks. That is why a lot of these guns sports laminate stocks.
