Hi all..

( if this is off topic, please move it )

I know this isn't a "hunting" question, but... most of us hunting/hike/go out in the woods... and most of us have Life Insurance.

I have been looking at increasing my life insurance, and noticed some policies do not pay out for accidental death caused by "mountain climbing". I havent spoken to an agent yet, but was wondering if -

- anyone knows of a company to deal with
- are there policies that cover hunting, hiking ( which is damn close to mountain climbing sometimes ), etc?... or at least, do not exclude them?

Thanks in advance,
OKH

Most policies should cover you ...when you apply you will be asked if you partake in any dangerous hobbies..they are ususally listed, such skydiving, hang gliding etc...your premium will be higher.

join your provincial wildlife association, will get you an automatic extra 5K should you cease to no longer live while pursueing one of your outdoor passions. not a lot extra but could pay for the fancy box they'll put you into.

Life insurance should cover you, just got mine updated recently!

Talk to several life agents and get their stories and then make your decision.

Accident policies are different and will have more exclusions!

Most insurance companies willask you these questions when you apply. For example, if you fly or skydive, these are riskier avocations and you will be issued a policy with a higher premium, usually. Best advice is to talk to your agent.

Life insurance

When you apply for a life insurance policy they ask you in the application if you participate or are planning on participating in dangerous activities (rock climbing, sky diving, etc.) If at the time of application you do not or are not planning to you can respond no. If at any point in the future after the application you take up a dangerous activity out of the blue you are covered. If you do participate in dangerous activity(s) or are planning to do so at the time of application you have the option to exclude the payment of a death benefit resulting from engaging in a dangerous activity or you can pay a rating on your premium and be fully covered.

Sorry for it being so wordy but there are many fine lines and you should contact a licensed professional with any further questions. Feel free to PM me.

Hunting and the shooting sports is considered to be so safe that insurance companies don't pay any attention to it. Hiking is just walking.

good point Gibbs!! Putting it off after making a decision is just asking for it!

I used to work in insurance. One client was negioting with our company and got killed in an accident. No claim was paid. Another client had signed the application and the agent sent it with a cheque for the first payment to the underwriting department. The estate got a payment in full.

Don't delay.

Exactly. I asked when I applied for my life insurance. These activities are not considered dangerous. They're probably safer than living in the major innner cities! Maybe you can ask for a discount?;):D

Join the NFA and sign up for their insurance.
It cost $7.95 a year.

From the NFA's website.
The policy offered by the National Firearms Association covers the individual, or the club for $5,000,000.00 in liability coverage.

This is NOT an aggregate amount, it is $5,000,000.00 in Liability Insurance for any claims.

Each individual, or each individual member of each covered club, is covered for:

All legal hunting activities
All legal bowhunting activities
All legal range shooting activities
All legal range archery activities
All legal fishing activities

anywhere in Canada or the continental United States.
