When searching for a .22, what qualities will make it able to be a lifelong companion?
I understand the basics of rifle care, but say I want this rifle to be around for the rest of my life in accurate condition, what should I be looking to buy?

I think the Weatherby MKXXII looks beautiful, but looks can't be everything, especially when the stock isn't a laminate or a synthetic.

And why don't a lot of .22s come with the iron sights on em?

If you had to put your money on 3 rifles that you think would last you a lifetime with proper care, only ones available new, what would they be?
(Bolts only please :D )

If you take care of any rimfire you are likely to have it for life as rimfire barrels can take thousands upon thousands of rounds (I know some that have gone through a million) while still retaining good accuracy. This doesn't mean cleaning even 50 shots as that will likely wear your barrel out but cleaning it every once in a while.

Most people like using scopes so as you mentioned not a whole lot of .22's with sights but try looking around and I am sure you might be able to find some more (CZ has some, anschutz, etc).

If I had to choose 3 I would choose, CZ, anschutz and Remington and Winchester (40X'/52 models of those guns)

I think any .22 rifle you buy will definitely last a lifetime, just need to make sure you take care of it. ie. proper maintenance and cleaning... Usually i clean my rifles after each session at the range..... a little time consuming but the rifle looks great the next time you pull it out and peace of mind.

I clean my rimfires when accuracy starts to drop off, or after 250 rounds, whichever comes first. In some rifles that takes a while. Semis need more frequent cleaning than manually operated ones. In any event, proper care means a long lasting firearm.
I would choose the CZ, The Remington 504 & a top end Anschutz for target/match play. Regards, Eagleye.

How is the inexpensive 452 or 453 comparable to a top end Anschutz?
I am not trying to be cocky if it is clear, or act dumb, I just don't know.

Air Vigilante - good question :). (Don't worry about asking what you think may be a dumb question - every question is a good one and feal free to ask any question you have in the forums and I am sure someone can help you out.

The 452's are very very good for the money, the best out there in my opinion but they are not quite in the same legue as anschutz. For starters anschutz triggers are top of the line, built very good with tons of adjustments (on the 54 especially). Anschutz 54's are often renouned for their trigger which can be lowered to several ounces - perfect for target shooting or up to acceptable levels for hunting. Next up their barrels are very good quality, with match chambers on (all?) models. This means very good accuracy up to the standard of just about every gun out there. Their stocks are also very good and available in a bunch of variety from aluminum to wood, etc. They also make models for juniors, 3p, benchrest, etc. Overall very good and worth the money as well. Both are great rifles, just both a bit different :)

Isn't the Weatherby XXII a Weatherby stock on an Anschultz barreled action? Seems like the best of both worlds (except if you want iron sights) if you like the Weatherby style stocks.
