I have a few 9mm pistols and wonder what is the lifespan of a barrel.

I mostly shoot reloads with minor PF for IPSC.

I have CZ Shadow, Glock17, Para Ordance.

Some said 10000 rounds, other said 50000 or 100000 rounds.

In all honesty, most 9mm pistols will have a slide or frame failure before you wear out the barrel's rifling. Short of a manufacturing defect that turns into a crack, most guns will probably not wear out the barrel.

However, if you are an active competitor, it's probably a good plan to have a replacement gun ready to go before your regular gun becomes unreliable.

In production shooting standard pressure 9mm ammo, I'd expect most decent guns to last 50k, if not more.

As the .40 S&W and .38 supers run hotter, the frames and slides take more abuse and may show age earlier.

The .38 Supers and major 9mm loaded guns do push bullets fast enough and at enough pressure to possibly burn a barrel while the frame and slide are still sound. Now with the lower PF, they likely last longer, but they do wear.

My standard caveat is that by the time you've spent all that money on ammo, you probably can't complain about the cost of a new gun.

If you are shooting FMJ, you may see groups opening up at 25-50K rounds, if lead and plated, 40-60K.
CZ barrels should be in $200 range for a replacement. You may need or want to replace trigger bar on CZ at the same time as well as it is gonna show some wear (on 'ears' that run against underside of slide).
With Shadow, have a spare slide stop, extractor, extractor spring and trigger spring, that's it. Don't worry till you are at 50-60K, then you may see some loss of accuracy.

I needed to replace the barrel on my 38 super at around the 20 k mark.the lead burnt out and the groups certainly opened up.In my 9 paras shooting minor loads,I've yet to wear out a barrel(and I've put many thousands of rounds downrange over the years).

There are many factors in barrel life including bullet composition, type of powder, rate of firing etc ,probably more barrels are worn out by improper cleaning than shooting.

At a guess I would say that a 9para barrel should be good for 60k with fmj,and in excess of 100k with lead

Onagoth- if I had to replace my pistol barrels every 1,000-2,000 rounds I'd be replacing them on a near weekly basis dude.

May I ask how do you replace the CZ barrel while it has the serial number on it? And where can I get them?;)

crafm (sponsor on top of this forum) is a cz warranty center for canada and they could help you with that. There very friendly to deal with.

In Europe that might be a problem. Here, it's more an issue of importation which can in some cases mean tracking to satisfy the producing countrys requirements.

Early Glocks were also serialed to match the frame, and factory replacements were not a massive problem.
