So I've been wondering... I've seen 100gr 7mm bullets but never found any data for loading that light of a bullet in a 7mm rem mag. I'm assuming those bullets are intended for lighter calibers but is it dangerous to load something with that light a bullet? I'm limited to one rifle and would like to not blow coyotes in half like my 160 gr accubond do. What is the lightest reasonable load for a 7 mm rem mag?

this may help.

If it is meant to shoot the same diameter bullet,it is the same caliber, and no,it's not dangerous to use a lighter .284" bullet.

The lighter .284" bullets will normally expand even more rapidly, and do even more damage. If you want less damage, use a heavier bullet at a lower velocity.

If you don't want blow coyotes in half going to a lighter, faster varmint bullet will make your problem bigger. I'd suggest the opposite approach. Try a stoutly constructed bullet at slower speed. Or a full metal jacket.

A quote--"those numbers for the 100's look a little slow. i'm getting 3600 with a 90 gr. in a 270 win.
i would think a 7mm would send the 100's just as fast if not more, but i don't have me books with me."

Those numbers quoted needed a lawyers signatue. Yours didn't!

160 abonds wont cut a dog in half . 150 sciroccos cut right through ,as do abonds .got one wolf with 150;s and one with 160's

I did it not long ago and the back side had a soccer ball size hole and intestines stretched out about 8 feet behind. To me that is blown in half.

yikes, i shot one neck and one shoulder/neck. not messy. except for blood on snow.
almost sounds like bullet struck something on the way to target.
i dont hunt wolves but always have a tag incase they show up
