I'll actually try to answer this.

The .300 WSM can be had in a short action rifle which - all things being equal - will be lighter than it's long action brother. I do not believe that a hunter could make use any ballistic advantage one cartridge might have over the other. Both cartridges can be had in rifles which weigh as little as 6.5 lbs, but in a 6.5 pound rifle I would sooner have an '06.

If you are looking for a target rifle, you should be less concerned about weight, if you are from Nfld, and want to shoot tars - well I'm not sure it would be legal. :)

You guys should try answering questons in Whistler!!

We've had an informal list running for 20 years there:

Is that in US or Canadian $?

I don't understand your coins!! (Well, our penny corresponds with your penny, nickel too, etc etc. Think of the Loonie as a Silver DOlllar, and the twoonie as $2) I still don't understand?

Does the ATM give US or Canadian $$?

How many trees are on Whistler MOuntain?

How do we get to Dual Mountain? We bought DUal Mountain Passes (valid for Backcomb and WHistler)

What does the moutain weigh?

What is the time difference between here and Los Angeles, California?

:) :)

As to the question, I'd echo Boomer. I think a TIkka T3 in 300WSM may be your lightest choice, but if youwantto shoot targets only, you shoudl go heavier.

I do believe a tar rifle would be awful messy to shoot, and the barrel might have a tendency to sag in warm weather...accuracy would probably suffer.:p

Currently the lightest offerings in the Cartridges you mentioned would be...

*Sako Finnlight
*Tikka T3 lite
*Remmie 700 Titanium(saum)

Generally speaking "Lightweight" and "Target" rifles don't mix ;)

Cheers:)
