Just like the title says I'm looking for a bolt action rifle for hunting but one that's light cause I'm gonna be on foot backpacking so weight is a big one. Any help.

Ruger American Ranch or American Predator? What caliber or game you're hunting? Wouldn't this be under Sporting thread instead of Precision?

What about a Kimber Mountain Ascent? Available in .280 AI, .270, 30-06 (as a Model 84L) and .308 (as a Model 84M). It weighs as little as 4pounds 13 ounces (for the .308) and has an adjustable trigger from the factory.

Unfortunately, most modern bolt actions require a scope, so along with your quest for a light rifle you're going to want a good quality light weight scope - unless, of course, you
are comfortable using iron sights. Another question is what caliber are you looking for? So what would be the "maximum" weight (scope included) you would like to carry and
what calibre of rifle do you want?

How big is your budget?

We have a couple on the go with Pierce Titanium actions, McMillan CF stocks, thin and/or fluted barrels. Bottom metal varies from factory to CDI DBM.

All possible... just up to your tastes and budget

in my quest for a light tactical/scout/hunting rifle I went with a ruger scout in .308
love the rifle, but it's nowhere near light. However, we're keeping it for the wife as it fits her very well and as a novice shooter she seems to be very comfortable behind it. one thing it is not is a "precision rifle"
so I thought to self, light tactical AND true precision...... and I decided to build a baby brother to my .338LM and .338WM and of course this brings me to my current soon to be build.
following along from a recent response from jerry at mystic , I'm saving my pennies for a Pierce titanium build in .338 federal , more punch than the .308 and flat like the 7mm mag .....
should prove to be an outstanding all around "light tactical/sniper scout/hunting rifle" with some serious punch ;)

How is a .338 Federal "flat like the 7mm mag"?

My Scout was no precision rifle either, and it wasn't particularly light either.. However, I think the newest model has some sort of composite stock that is lighter. Any idea what it is about these rifles that keep them from performing better?

2400$ will build you something nice for sure! I don't have that budget so I'm likely going for another Tikka for a light precision aka hunting rifle.

If I was looking for a lightweight hunting rifle that is precise that I wouldn't mind hiking long distances with and with a $2400 budget I would probably go with a Sako Bavarian. I've always had a love for that rifle. Set trigger, super smooth action, great accuracy and light.
