Hey Leigh

I was wondering if you guys were still testing/experimenting with lightweight bolts for the 10-22
Hoping for something reliable for birdshot ammo

Thanks for the great gear you people already put out

Volquartsen used to have a 22short bolt that would work with subsonic lr and short rounds. It’s discontinued if it sold I’m sure it would still be made

I knew VQ used to have something just dont know the specs

Just thought to myself they problably had issues with people running them with full power ammo

There was just one of those firefles for sale on the EE

The “Firefly” . The bolt handle was screwed in and kept falling out and getting lost

I have the same attachment on the dlc competition bolt and the handle has never unscrewed idk. Volquartsen does have a history of discontinuing poor performing products without admitting it. I wonder how long the summit will last

We did experiment with a lighter weight steel bolt, not aluminum like the Volq.

There are a few problems making bolts this light so we didn't make them. The main issues were that everyone wanted these to shoot CCI Quiets. With only 710 fps of energy there just wasn't enough power to reliably cycle the rifle even when it was clean, polished and had a lighter recoil spring. I could get our testing rifle to cycle the Quiets with about 85% of the time only. That, unfortunately, isn't good enough to sell as a commercial product.

You wouldn't like the price. I spent a half hour machining it and chewed up a carbide end mill. Oh, and it's Nitride finished ,lol. Yup, I have a porblem if you haven't noticed / :

1/2 hour is pretty quick for what sure looks like a very nice bolt
I dont doubt you did everything you could to make it work
Its too bad the results werent better for you

I am curious why no aluminum tho ?
Were other alloys or composites considered ?
Or did you stay with just the steel

No, it took a half hour to MODIFY an existing bolt. You want it ? Yours for only $300, private sale.
