I know there is a similar thread running recently but didn’t want to hijack it.
I am putting together a new rifle that is going to be “relatively” light, not a flyweight but trying to save ounces where I can. I am however planning to have minimalist iron sights on it as a backup and thus want a tool less quick detach mount system.
I’ve looked at options from both Leupold and Talley, both look to be in the 6-8oz range between rings and bases. Does anyone make a lighter option? Obviously looking at individual rings and not a large one piece mount.
As an aside I’ll probably be getting a custom set of bases made, both to integrate a rear ghost ring and to be an exact match to the ring mount to help with return to zero.

While I appreciate your desire for light rings on a relatively lightweight set up, the addition of a scant few ounces when comparing your rings and bases for their security and reliability of keeping that scope from moving, is a trade off well worth the investment.

I have been using the Leupold QR and QRW rings and bases for over 22 years now, (on a Browning BLR and Win Model 88 lever actions, and Remington, Ruger, and Sako bolt actions, chambered in 7mm-08 to 9.3x62) and their ruggedness and reliability is worth every ounce of weight for me. I have not had one fail yet, nor be able to return to zero if/when removing the scope to use the irons, and then remounting again. (Of which I have only had to do once out of necessity because a scope lost its zero.) Of these rifles, the lightest scoped pkg w/ a magazine full of ammo is the BLR in 358 Win @ 7 lbs 15 oz. (The heaviest is 10 lbs 4 oz) - so no lightweights here.
I do have the ability to remove the scopes on a couple of these set ups and then install a peep (NECG and Sako) on the bases vs a regular rear sight.
