Just wondering what Limited Custom shooters prefer for springs? I tried the 11.2lb recoil spring that comes with it and a 14lb hammer spring cut by two coils,..but found the ammo 180gr at 175+pf felt a little harsh on the gun. I have used the 12.3lb spring and think I like that for now. Still feels a little light, but I think the other heaviest spring that comes in it is around 14lbs.

I am using the Henning firing pin and henning hammer and sear as well.

What's your load Mo?
When I was shooting mine at about the same pf I ended up settling on the lightest spring (roughly 10-ish lbs). But I was using the full power mainspring and Clays. Shot pretty soft for me and didn't batter the frame.

Not sure what the load is,..montana heads,..over whatever powder Combat masters ammo is.....,..but that is all I will be using for a while. I have lots. I think the lighter main spring offers less resistance,...so maybe I needed a heavier recoil spring.

fyi---My Limited Custom 12.3lb recoil spring feels heavier than my Tanfoglio stock2 recoil spring,..but my hammer spring in the stock 2 is heavier,..and racking the slide on the stock2 requires slightly more effort.

That makes sense. Well whatever the load and spring combo is, as long as the gun returns to neutral (doesn't nose dive or stay up) I would say you have it right.

springs

If it's any help to you Mo, Eric G uses the 12.2 or middle spring on his .40 and Open blaster too. It's very easy to underspring a Tanfoglio, and they don't seem to handle well being undersprung.

thanks guys! On a related topic,..I had 3 jams last weekend,..which I think are due to cleaning,....but could partially be due to worn springs. My extractor spring is at about 6000 rds plus dryfire and practice with snap caps,...and the recoil spring must be at about 12000rds, plus countless cycling during dryfire..I haven't replaced it since new!!
I think I remember reading that Eric said it could cause extraction issues if the recoil spring is too weak or worn; ie: the slide will open too early.
My jams last weekend were fte,...the empty case came out of the chamber to the point that the slide was stuck open,...the case was just sitting on the next round in the mag. I do remember I was in sufficient HOSE mode,.and had triple or quad tapped a target when it happened. Any thoughts?

It sounds like extractor tension to me. I have far more rounds on those springs than you with no issues so far, and I'm using a lighter recoil spring. Since it's a Super I have an extra power (Wolf) extractor spring installed and it seems quite durable. But I ran standard springs in my Limited Customs when I had them and they worked just fine, for whatever that's worth.

Is the extractor channel clean? If it gets too gummed up it will definitely foul extraction. They can get a build-up of carbon in there and you won't see it if you don't take the extractor out, so if you haven't detailed it a while....

Check your mags too, believe it or not. If they're dirty and not lifting the next round fast enough, the empty case may not be presenting correctly on the ejector. You may not see the dirt at first glance either, as some powders can leave a waxy residue inside the mags, which really drags on the followers and slows feeding. Re. Eric's comments: These guns do cycle really fast and unlock really fast. The reciprocating mass is very low compared to a 1911. Accordingly, mag cleaning seems to be something that has to be done a little more fastidiously. Tanfo's tend to leave a tiny little more residue in the breach area from shot to shot. It's the trade-off we accept for the insane cycling speed.

I think your recoil spring would have to be pretty much junk for it to let the gun unlock before chamber pressure has dropped. So I doubt that would be the problem.

Also stating the obvious...just in case it isn't...check the extractor to see if it is intact. An extractor with the claw partially broken off will certainly leave the cases in the breach.

That's what I can think of for now. Let me know if any of this helps will you Mo?

I did a detail cleaning on the channel and firing pin channel,..I noticed a rough area that seemed scratched up at the bottom of the breach/underside of slide. (the area where CZ owners make sure is a smooth bevel) Now that I think of it,..my mags are super overdue for cleaning. I ordered a few new extractor springs,...I will let you know if this all helps. thanks!

As far as springs, I know there is lots of argument over spring life, but I have to say at least in my own experience the life of a spring is quite lengthly to say the least. I have guns with multiple times more rounds than what you say your Limited has Mo, and I haven't changed them as I haven't seen the need. Having the correct spring is the key, and once you settle on it, keep a couple of spares, but you will be surprised I think on how long one will last. I am with Relliot on the extractor springs by Wolf. I need to order a few of their Xpower ones and a few recoil springs. In your Limited I think a 13 or 14 should put you in that sweet spot for being the right weight, again many will argue this. I would pick up a few and experiment with what feels best to you. Many shooters prefer the lightest they can go, but I played around with that direction and most times I felt that the guns felt terrible, so I went higher until I found one that felt just right. Check the channel for the extractor and keep the gun clean. I don't get caught in the "I don't clean my gun until it stops working" as I feel why leave anything to chance. You can give your Tanfo a good cleaning in a matter of minutes, so why not?

thanks,...I can't use the extra power extractor in my production,..but I can in my limited. I will take my stock2 to the range on tuesday to try it out.
