Planning to use my garand in this fall's Alberta hunting season and finding out they've got a 5rd mag limit for big game. I'm not a fan of altering my en-blocs so am wondering if there's a system out there for non-permanently blocking the mags to 5rds? I guess in theory I could just load 5 and carefully stuff it in, however then I'm concerned a CO would cite the regs where they say capacity rather than loaded to. Anyone seen this done?

It is unlawful to
1) set out, use or employ any of the following items for the purpose of hunting big game:

- an auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges in the magazine,

Possibly silver solder a nut to the inside. although as Gandreite said, they are fairly cheap so just permanently modify one.

You could just superglue an inch-long bolt so that it stuck up from the floor-plate, restricting the rifle to 5.

Many superglues, I find, are more than a bit vulnerable to acetone, remove rather easily afterwards.

Use dummy rounds for the bottom brother ?, get a few snap caps that , load the 3 caps in, then 5 live rounds, will work the same and stop shooting after 5 No ???? if you're doing the big game, then you dont need more than 5 anyway :), snap caps are cheap to.

That does not affect how many cartridges can be held in the magazine. Snap caps are still cartridges, even if they are inert.

H-diddy, let me know if I can help. I've got some epoxy, solder, and a bunch of tools.

As has been noted - the issue is that the regs say capacity, so even if loaded to 5, if I can reload and fit more it's a violation.

That said, the gun doesn't really have a magazine... I suppose it has a well for the clip that could be considered a magazine, but really it has no body or housing for ammo, just a spot where other stuff doesn't happen.

So where are people finding these $1 5rd enblocs?

Brownell's sells 5 rounds clips for 6$.... I believe the clip counts as a magazine as the rifle will not hold cartridges without a clip... They are the detachable feeding device that hold the ammunition for the rifle... Also, are they not specifically exempt from the 5 rounds magazine limit in C-68 just like the Lee-Enfield magazine??

They are not exempt from the Alberta hunting restriction of holding no more than 5 cartridges for big game hunting. Win some and lose others.

I know... I was thinking about the post telling that 5 rounds clips were not magazines and therefore the Garand could not be used during hunting because it was considered to always be capable of holding 8 rounds...
