Limp wristing a shotgun?

My buddy has a 930 and it cycles most loads. Actually all loads. He had these cheap bulk target clay loads and was checking if they would cycle. They didn't and I noticed he wasn't holding the shotgun firm just "laxy dasical". As Hickok45 would say... I told him to hold the shotgun tight against his shoulder. He did and the rounds cycled the action without issue

I have a 930 myself and was having cycling issues. I was testing it out after a thorough cleaning and near the end of my range session I started holding it more firmly against my shoulder and it started to work much better. I ran out of ammo before I could really test my theory.

It shouldn't matter with a gas gun. The 930 is gas is it not? An inertia guns will fail to load some times if held off the shoulder. I've seen it a few times with heavy loads.

The gun is already moving backward from recoil. The bolt carrier is forced backwards by gas pressure or recoil. If the gun is moving backwards at a similar speed to the bolt carrier the gun will not cycle. I would think that the gun would have to be held firmly enough to counter the effects of recoil. Someone should suspend a shotgun and fire it and see what happens.
