Link for thise missed mythbusters on sniper scope

Who were these bozos, anyway? Friends, I think the only way we can be satisfied with the results is if one of our own takes a junky old scope and zaps it with a .30-06 (or a .308).

FYI, Hathcock's load was a 172 Lake City FMJ pushed out of a Model 70T .30-06 at 2,550 fps. Yes, the old .30-06 LC match/sniper load was this slow, essentially a moderate .308 load.

I simply do not believe that any scope is going to stop a bullet like that. By the way, where were the bullets fired in this test? If they stopped inside the scope, they should have been able to drop out into the guy's hand when he picked it up? On the other hand, if the shooter made a periperhal hit on the edge of the lens or tube, the tube would shear like it did and the first lenses would shatter, but the bullet would be deflected and fly away.

Anyone have an old scope they'd like to try shooting?

A bunch of guys that make money by entertaining the faint of heart.

I think you're right on the mark there eltorro. What's upsetting is that your comment applies equally to any and all gun related treatment by the media, including network (so called) news! The Mythbuster girls are only the tip of the iceberg.

Had i not known him, seen the man put them down range, maybe i would take the stories with a grain of salt. The books have a little to much said, and people have a tendancy to believe most of what they see on the screen and what they hear. Like the Gunny would have said, whole lotta kimshe going on
