Does anyone know what the legal minimal cartridge to hunt lions in Aftrica? I have a Merkel 9.3x74R SXS double rifle.
Thanks!

Just like here in Canada, regulations vary by region. Each country has its own rules, some say .375 is the minimum. Some have an energy requirement for DG. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I can share which countries consider 9.3x74 'legal' for such a pursuit

The legal minimum cartridge for hunting lions in most African countries is the .375 H&H Magnum. However, larger calibers like .416 or .458 are often recommended for greater stopping power. Some countries, like South Africa, also allow .338 as a minimum, but .375 is still generally preferred

Caliber & Cartridge ! 2 different things that are mixed up all the time and rifle manufactures are largely to blame !

Ex ! 30-30 or 300 Rum ! Both 30 caliber but a whole lot of difference in energy !
Ex! 375 Win or 375 Weatherby both same caliber but again a Whole lot of difference in killing Power !

Just sayin ! RJ

If it's the 375 H&H, then I must go shopping for another double rifle; none for sale in Canada from my internet search. Funny, I ask myself, if a minimum of 375 H&H is required, how-come bows and arrows are allowed?

Some places allow 338s and/or 9.3s. You'll have to be more specific than "Africa" to get a straight answer.

Because a firearm kills by shock, a crossbow bolt or arrow from a bow kills by hemorrhaging.

A bone hit from an arrow out of an 80 pound bow can create some shock, but it’s mostly hemorrhaging that kills with this method.

Shock gets you the DRT results many gun hunters strive for, but it's still hemorrhaging that does the killing.

The way the two work is certainly different though, bullets don't cut like a broadhead, and arrows don't cause large temporary cavities like a high velocity bullet...

Correct.

A bullet creates major shock due to the power being unleashed in the body cavity. This shock obviously creates hemorrhaging as well.

An archery harvest is different, as I explained above.......:)
