Lipsey's Exclusive Ruger No. 1 22 Hornet - Any chance?

Ruger have a real bad habbit of stopping production on good models like the Red Label shotguns or Number 1 rifles.
They cost too much to manufacture, so there are there for a limited time only!

Sadly that's true. Gone are the days of the exhibition grade walnut stocks on Number 1's.
I sometimes wonder how well the Number 3 would sell in today's market given that short carbines seem to be the flavor of the day.

What did a number 3 go for when you could get them new?

The last two I bought that came NIB were a 280AI and a .257 Weatherby. Both needed the buttstock and forearm properly inletted and wood sealed before shooting. Very poor finish on the wood as well on the .280AI. The wood on the .257 was above average for a recent Ruger No. 1. Very poor quality control for what they were priced at most recently. They shoot good but The actions aren’t as smooth as the older ones. I would buy a new one now but not without holding it in my hands first.

In the early 80's I purchased a new #1B from Lever Arms for $400.00. #3 were about $225.00. In 1986 I purchased a nib #3 .375 Winchester for $300.00

So using those numbers, a #3 went for ~60‐75% of a #1, does that seem about right? Looking at Lipseys the MSRP on a #1 starts north of $2200 USD these days. So using that 60% number, we're talking like $1320 USD for a #3, or around $1650 CAD for a single shot rifle? I can certainly see why they don't make em anymore if that's what they'd have to ask for em to make it worth their while, especially due to the proliferation of the budget bolt gun over the last 10 years.

Too bad though. Always thought these Ruger falling block actions were cool...
