Well, unfortunately moose season is over for me now and I didn't get to shoot anything. I only got to see a huge cow, but of course, no tag for it!

Anyways, I did carry my Weatherby MK-V Stainless in .300 Wby Mag loaded with 180gr Barnes TSX at 3,300 fps, complete with mounted Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm. Maybe next year...

I have a few years on you fiddler, and I have shot moose from 15 feet right out to 500+ yards. I have actually shot 7 moose on the far side of 450, and another dozen at 300+ You see, we have these things called clear-cuts here. Logging slash with no cover to sneak in close on a moose. Sometimes it is just better to take him where he stands than risk spooking him and losing your chance. While a moose is not very good at spotting a stationary hunter. Moving objects are easy for him to see, and if he is nervous already, he will be gone. That is why I use a flat shooting chambering most often when shooting moose. Certain areas, though, allow the use of less powerful rifles. Regards, Eagleye

Same thing here. I come across them either at extremely short range in the willows or tight stands of trees, or waaaay down the cutline. So, it's a customized heavy-ass 340 Wby. Second choice is the 45-70 SBL.

Anything needing a muzzle brake is just silly.

Depending on when I find a moose and what rifle I'm carrying at the time it could be my Ruger M77 257 Roberts, Custom 25-06, Ruger M77 30-06, or a custom Rugger M77 338-06.

Hmmmmmmm seems the rifle selection is a little low, better do something about that.
