So here I am sitting in my office, enjoying a glass of rye, puttering on my computer, window open listening to the bull elk bugle in the field below my house.

I wandered down to my Gun room and hunted through my stuff and found my Pa's old Herter's elk call. Stepped out on the porch and "talked" to some of the Boys putting on a show out in the field. Had to stop or one might end up in my yard....lol

Resumed my position in my easy chair with the window open, cool night air flowing in with all the fall smells, and my own front stage pass to The Wapiti Brothers Blues Band!

Life can really be good some times!

Sorry my friend but it was pitch black dark with a ground fog. The only picture could have been an infrared heat signature and I am not that well off to own one of those. Just the first half hour of daylight now. If my "trapline" of game cameras pays off I would be happy to post some pics but posting pics on this web site is a pain in the keester.

I rank being close to bugling elk as one of the most thrilling experiences in life. If that doesn't make the hair on your neck stand up you're not alive.

yup some of the best times I've had this fall have been listening to the echoing bugle. heard lots, had a wall tent in where the elk live, they bugled throughout the night on multiple occasions. pretty hard to sleep with a bull that sounds like he's going to come through the tent!

that's good livin' - and don't be pestered by folks who think that pictures are the only reality. Sound poetry is just as real, and more special.

Yes the elk rut seems to be a little late here in S.E BC.
One morning they bugle back, the next day, nothing.

I called in a 5x5 to less than 15 yards of me last week, he kept running back and forth in front of me trying to catch my scent while I was counting points, kneeling in the grass at about 7:15 am, on an old cut block,
but they have to have a 6th point on one side here here in the Kootenays, so I had to let him go, but still quite a rush!

Here's a couple of trail cam pics from a the past few years.....

See if you can count the points in the last pic.....

Had one bugling over my camp all last night, didn't get serious till I had a look at him this morning. By then, it was too late. ;)
