Hey guys need some advice I am trying to keep the weight down as much as possible on my m700 and want a good quality but as lite as possible rings mount and scope package any suggestions? I have about $500 to shell out for the outfit
thanks any suggestions would help as lite as possible is the goal
Hard to beat Leupold scopes for light weight - the small variables or even better - a fixed power eg 4x. For rings and bases..not pretty but weaver 2 piece bases are aluminum and light (and inexpensive) .. probably weaver rings as well as they are mostly aluminum as well .. and ok priced...just a pain to get the reticle squared away with them. There are of course light weight rings that cost a lot more...and are a lot nicer looking ... but probably not any better functionally.
Nightforce Ultralights are part titanium, very light and tough(about $200). I would also suggest a Leupold, the smaller the objective lense... the lighter the scope.
I'm doing the same...putting together yet another ultra-light (about my tenth go at this...I used to build them on HVA featherweights but the rotten Husqvarna triggers and safeties that always had to be replaced and soldered on sights that fall off and the "variable" accuracy finally cured me of those little ######xx)..anyway...there are all sorts of very light ugly rings that will fit Weaver bases....but I like the Q-D Leupold rings for Weaver...a tad heavier but I like my iron sight options...What I am looking for is the best lightweight scope...preferably not a variable (contraptions) and preferably not a Leupold...preferably Euro...a used fixed power Swarovski maybe? (do they still make fixed power scopes at Swarov.?)...price isn't really a concern. Anybody got an idea? Most Euro scopes are too heavy for this rifle concept. Rifle weighs about 6 pounds even...I'd like the whole rig to stay under 7.
I own a couple but I'm not a big Leupold fan either however they produce a lightweight product that works ok.
Burris has light weight 4x - can't comment on them but some people like Burris a lot. The Available fixed 4x European scopes seem to be pretty heavy .. and there are less fixed 4x than there used to be.
I have a fixed 4x Swarovski AL that is light and very good. A Nickel Supra 4x that is very heavy (steel) and very good and a Zeiss 4x "C" that is between these two in weight; also several 4x Zeiss Jena's that are pretty good for what I paid. If I was shopping for a 4x today I would probably (and a little reluctantly) buy the Leupold 4x fwiw AP
I am going with the light weight talley rings and a VX-III 3.5-10 40mm on my light weight rifle....could go with a lighter scope but I like the light gathering that this ones offers.
