Had a blast with my heavy barrel lithgow in -10°.
Was shooting mostly the M1D and then pulled out the 303 for a 5 shot group at 140y.

This old girl can shoot!

About the rifle:

1916 Lithgow with 1935 heavy barrel with matching numbers.
Bore is of course excellent and the custom Monte Carlo stock is very comfortable and an impressive piece of craftsmanship.
Original owner remebers it in his dads closet untouched for over 50 years so its an old sporter job.
Weaver T01 mount with T rings and a weaver k2.5.
I wanted to restore it but it shoots so well and so much work went into it that im going to just enjoy it as is.

Yes, the pictures are great, and what do I see there?

A less than 1/2 inch group? But that seems to be the norm nowadays.

Amazing the TO1 mt even stays in place as they were pretty flimsy.Great shooter though in spite of that.

Somebody took the time to do the civilian conversion properly back in the day.

Elwood Epps really liked Lithgow heavy barrel rifles to make up many of the sporters he sold. Elwood really liked the profile of the No1 rifles and considered them to be "sleeker"

The main reason I'm saying it was done properly is that the fore stock is cut back beyond the pressure pad that puts upward pressure on the barrel.

I'm willing to bet that rifle was new in grease before the conversion. Does it still have the copper shims screwed to the ways???

I agree, leave it alone as is. It's been drilled and tapped and somehow that just takes away from what you're really looking for in a milsurp.

The T01 mount can be very solid on a No1 with the larger area on the rear bridge.

Great to see that old girl being taken out. Lots of people turn their noses up at anything milsurp. To bad because most of the rifles they shoot originated from those designs.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Liberals really like POOR people, they're making more of them every day

If you can't vote CPC, stay at home in protest

This T01 seems quite solid, i keep the scope off of the rifle to fit in the case so the mount is definitley doing its job.

I actually like the T01 as far as dovetail mounts go as they have a recoil lug at the front giving you the ability to mechanically zero the position of your scope.

i just mounted the scope and fired these 5 rounds.

Most likely a lithgow factory H model conversion from the 30’s. These were predominantly early WW1 actions with tighter tolerances converted to heavy barrels. Considered more accurate than the standard No1.
Very unlikely this rifle was new in the grease before it was sportered.
Nice one!
