The Lithuanian armed forces just bought 9,000 G36s for $19million, which replaces their current stock of AKMS, AK4 (Swedish G3), and M16A1s. That said, I thought they still had M14s too? Maybe they will surplus them off and we can get some nice USGI parts kits!

Here are some pics:

They purchased the G36V and G36KV, the export variant with the single 1.5x magnified sight and I believe they will all have somekind of railed forend. Smart country!

Has HK solved their plastic cracking problem yet with the G36? Given Lithuania's relatively cold climate, that may lead to problems if they haven't. Can't say as I've really been following the HK "story" that closely anyway, given their past civilian gun sale policies.

I'd run away from the G36 as fast as possible...

If that sight is the same as the one you can get to sit on top of an sl8, it is dog####.

They've had' em for a while, KevB you remember when we arrived KIA in 2004? I saw them with the shorter version driving around with in their landrovers (Probably Para or Lithuanian SF).

19 mil divided by 9,000 guns equal $ 2,111.11 per gun. Not much of a deal since we can buy them for about the same price one at a time!!

When it comes to price don't forget that it includes all the equipment issue scale, spare parts, publications, tech support, training, etc. The SOF guy used them for a while and the good experience that they had with them led to their general adoption.

If you have a Janes.com subscription you can see the article here

Otherwise here is some more G36 ####, with cool techno music to boot!

Roger --but not nearly as cool as the KSK guys Dave and I saw with C8SFW's cuz their G36C's and K's where cracking... One big guy wanted to thump me for trying to get a pic of the SFW (It was one of those you just NEED to get a pic of german with a non german gun moments) [I beleive they where interim borrowed from the Brits of CJSOTF]

FYI on the pic -- I would guess regular army - no RAS, their SF guys had PEQ's etc on theirs -- unless its a training gun for Q course.

What reinforcement is there to the receiver on the G36? Is the whole frame simply plastic with a small barrel trunion molded in place?

Sounds flimsy if that is actually the case.
