Hello to every one !

At this point I own a BL22, 9422M and a Little Badger in .22 .
On my little piece of land, the Badger is always with me. The other .22 I own are just never used anymore. That's how much I love my Badger.

The other day, on the net I saw a video evaluation of the Little Badger in .22 Magnum. It was an eye opener for me.
The guy evaluating it tested it with .22 magnum cartridges, regular .22 long rifle and subsonic .22 cartridges too... He was saying that the .22 long rifles were doing good in that gun without the shell cracking and expending so much as getting stuck...

The guy also tested it with a silencer - that was pretty sweet but living in Canada...

If that is true, I WANT a Little Badger in .22 Magnum ! That awesome little gun would be just that much more polyvalent !

Has anybody tried shooting a Long Rifle in a .22 Magnum Little Badger ?

Thanks !

Dominik

I've fired a few cylinders of .22lr in a .22mag revolver cylinder and it was less then catastrophic, I think it would be fine in the badger as long as the user is paying attention and maybe checking the bore if a case blows apart to the point of pieces separate.

Accuracy would be the interesting thing but if it's just for grouse probably not a big deal.

Requires further testing.

Lol funny you mention this. I just tried it today in my lil badger 22mag today and the lr casings looked fine. No split at all. Mind you i only shot 3.

Forgive my ignorance here. I have a thread going about .22 take down guns and people, including Can-down have recommended the Little Badger. Seems like the one to get!
Question is: Why are people concerned about case splitting and bore issues with shooting a .22LR thru a .22 Mag?
Both are rimfire, the .22 mag has a longer case which I assume means more powder and pressure, hence Magnum. Wouldn't shooting a .22 LR thru a .22 Mag be just like shooting a .38Spl thru a .357 Mag? Am I missing something?

The only thing i can think of is that if the brass splits when firing a .22LR case in a .22 magnum chamber, it could potentially damage the chamber. Also, the burning powder from the short cartridge could dirty up the longer chamber something fierce. I don't think you have to worry about it between 38/357's because there is only about 1/10th of a inch difference in chamber length but with a .22/22Mag scenario the chamber's almost double the size. That's only a guess though. I've been wrong before. :yingyang:

I guess what I mean is why would a .22 case rupture in the chamber of a .22 mag? Is the LR case thinner and there is more room for lateral expansion? I have never seen a .22LR case rupture in a .22 LR firearm, so why the worry about it rupturing in a .22 mag firearm?

That one was on a .17HMR in a rifle made for that specific cartridge. I was wondering why a .22LR has an increase risk of rupture in a .22 mag based on the posts here. I'm assuming all else being equal, the LR is a lesser powered round than the mag so why the worry? I can see a problem if someone were to do the reverse and shoot .22 mag in a .22 LR!

PS little airwolf, thanks for the info on the Su-22! I have passed it on. The rest is up to my friend.

the diameter of the 2 cases are different enough that a 22 mag will not chamber in a LR rifle, and a LR case will be a very sloppy fit in a magnum chamber

I had a 22mag badger and it rocked. Lots of fun and i believe it only weighed about 2 pounds. Mine was made in the 1960's and had metal (white metal?) peep sights with a fixed non folding stock. Was a fairly accurate shooter and it liked rabbits.

It did not shoot 22LR at all they keyholed after 6 feet and had no penetration. I did try flobert 6mm rounds though that worked somewhat better.

Thank you all for your answers !
I sent an email to Dante in Montreal. I asked them to reserve me a .22 magnum little Badger if they have one in stock or order one for me.

I will wait for the magnum to arrive before I decide wether I keep the regular .22 or not.

Will see and will be back to tell about it !

Thanks,

Dominik

So Dante in Montreal doesn't have a magnum Little Badger in Stock. They called the Chiappa's Canadian Distributor and apparently received vague infos about it's availability in Canada.

Anybody knows where I can find one in Canada ? or a way to get one from the states ?

Thank you !

Yea bud, I RUN GUNS brought me in one last month....little pricy compared to the LR version. almost double after shipping and conversion of CAD to US dollar. BUT in my mind worth it, I love this gun. Cheers.

Hate to sound like a cranky old fart...but why on earth do people feel the temptation to try and chamber a round not meant for their particular gun? Whether or not it's safe/not safe (and if you have to ask, you shouldn't be trying it)....it's a dangerous precedent. So it works for your 22lr/22WMR experiement...what if you decide to shoot 17M2 in a 17HMR chambered rifle? What about 20ga in a 16ga. gun? Those rounds will fit in those chambers. If the internet experts aren't there to answer your question...would someone try anyway?

At the root of this question is the Little Badger, a cheaply-made gun. Let's use a little common sense here guys. Yes, there is only about a .016" case diameter difference between 22lr and 22WMR, but expansion is possible, fouling is likely.

Ever here the question of 5.56 vs .223?
There is no such thing as a stupid qustion, just a stupid answer.
I guess Ive given a few.
However on here, most people are 100% correct, or so they think.

I guess a discussion on "cut shells" is next eh...... :)

In the case of the little badger .22mag if you can get minute of rabbit with a CB long or CCI quiet, and then pop in a magnum for a larger animal it would be of potentially more use as a "survival type gun"

I visited as many Canadian Net gun shop as I could. There was suppose to be 1 available in NB but nada finally.
I ordered 1 through Dante, might take 2, 3 or more month to receive it... I'll sit and wait, would love to have it before Christmas, if not before fool's day hopefully. ..
