does anyone know if it looks like the conservatives are gona let the AR's off restricted at some point?

also i am a little out of touch with exactly what it means when they say they are getting rid of the registry. (any explanation would be of great help)

i ask these because id like to know if this year its worth investing in AR-10 or somthing like that for hunting (in the future)

thanks.

I doubt it. The AR will still be restricted. There is some debate, but it problable means all non-restricted long guns. (give or take a few paragraphs of C-68)

Don't let that stop you from buying.
Some day....

What about a letter writing campaign for the AR and the Saiga rifles too. The Saiga rifles might be easier as they don't look as scary and are basically identical to the Valmet hunter models?

Man, part of the reason of me getting an AR-15 was because the Conservatives won and I felt there was a chance (even if it were slim) that the AR might get back to its Non-Restricted status.

Anyway, I really like the AR more than I thought I would. Get one!

Keeping my fingers crossed - I'm hoping the registry is just going to be for handguns / Semi-Auto long guns with barrels shorter than 18.5" / Current Prohibs :D

Baby steps people. How long ago was the election? We can't expect a minority conservative government to make all our dreams come true the day after election.

I would imagine the first step is scraping the non-restricted firearms registry. This will happen the soonest. Anything after that is any ones guess.

Edit: Holy crap I can't spell.

They've already said, in their campaign literature, that the only thing they plan on doing is scrapping the registry. Anything that is currently restricted or prohibited will stay that way.

... but they have NOT said what restrictions will apply to "restricted" and "prohibited" firearms, so things are pretty much still up in the air.

Let's keep things in perspective. What we really need at this point is for the Conservatives to establish themselves as NOT being the nutjobs the Liberals always painted them as. Turfing the registry is an easy one, because one can simply point to the financial problems that plague it.

Any other kind of moves in our favor would be quite risky. I for one would want them to be on a bit better footing before trying to dance.
