Figured now that I have some pics developed, I would chime in here as well.

Our season started on Sept 24 as that is when our Moose draw opening day was.

My hunting partner, Craig and myself both got drawn in zone 446.

I have tyaken a lot of time off of work for this season so far, with the 5+hours travel time one way to get up there and hunt.

I'll try to keep this short and sweet and only tell of the highlights of the trips.

On Opening morning, we were down in the trees trying our best to sound like a couple of sleazy cow Moose. I don't know if were were sounding wrong, or if the Bulls in that area were of a higher class, and didn't want anything to do with such a sleazy cow. Needless to say, no luck.a Highlight of that say was seeing a real nice Blonde coloured Black bear. Neither of us had a bear tag, but we both regretted not having one the longer we watched it. It wasn't the biggest bear I have ever seen, but sure was a nice colour. One of these years, I'll be on the ball and buy a bear tag as this isn't the first time I wished I had one.

We left that area and headed further south and turned in on a road on the southern boundary of 446. (you local guys know which road this is). We looked high and low, here and there, but nothing. At the end of the day, past legal shooting time, we did hear a bull calling but it was too late in the day to do anything about it.

The next day, we were back in there, still looking for Moose. We were on foot in the Morning, Scouting, calling, moving on. We ran into a group of 4 Mule Deer bucks. Nothing big. The biggest one was a 3 point trying to be a 4 point. He had a bit of a stub on the 1 side that if it had grown a bit more, it would have counted, but it didn't, so he was a 3 point with a stub lol

We watched them for a good 20 minutes to 1/2 hour trying to decide if we should shoot or not. We both got burned the previous year with holding out for a Mulie bigger than what we had been seeing, but ended up hanging out tags on the Christmas tree that year.

The Deer finally wandered off, and made the decision for us.

The rest of that afternoon, was uneventful. We rn into the same group of Mulies that evening though, and still watched them trying to talk ourselves into taking one each.

After about 20 minutes of watching them, Craig finally said, I'm gonna take one. I decided that after he shot, if the next biggest one stuck around after the shot, I'd take it.

Boom, Craigs Deer goes for a frantic 30 yard run, and the next biggest stood there looking at Craig's Deer, then looked at us, looked back at Craig's deer, back at us.

Boom. 2 Mule Deer down.

Nothing big, but some good eating on them.

Now finally the Moose story.

I had the 21 through till the 24 of Oct booked off for another trip. So back up there I go again. On Sat the 21, we tried another spot further north of where we got the Mulies at, just a little North of the Southview day use area. (Again you local guys may know where I am talking about. )

We turned off the Hwy, and followed a road down the power line for a little ways, turned off of that road and parked at a lease. Nothing much that morning, so after noon we unloaded the quads, and went exploring. I am From Grande Cache, but a lot has changed around there since I left in '98.

We did manage to see some game, Grouse, Whitetails, Mulie does, but no moose. We ended up going south on the power line right to where it crosses the Hwy at Prairie Creek. No Moose. Great looking areas, but no Moose.

Sun we were back in the Road on the Southern end of 446 (Local guys Shhh.....lol) We didn't get out of town till afternoon as Craig was feeling guilty about the lack of time he was spending with his wife due to work and hunting, so they went for their traditional Sun brunch, and I slept in.

We got the trucks parked, and unloaded the quads. We went to check out a trail up cutpick hill, and saw a 1/2 dozen or so Mulie does and fawns, a few grouse and that was it on the way up. Coming down, we spied a nice 4x4 Mulie buck. But we had already used our tags so all we could do was watch.

Back to the main road, and we ended up doing a bit of racing on the quads, lol

Come around a corner, and Holy $&(@ Big, Black, Antlers.

Go figure, sneak around trying to be quiet, watch the wind, etc, nothing. Get goofing around, and one is standing there for us lol.

By the time we got our wits about us, the Moose wandered off the road and was headed towards the trees. Craig was a little ahead of me, and the Moose was blocked from view from me due to a couple of trees. Craig shot, and when I got a clear view of the Moose after getting past the trees, I could see him staggering a bit kinda coming back towards the road. I raised my rifle, but then thought, no way! If he wants to come closer to the road before dying, I'm not gonna try to stop him.

A few seconds later he was down, and then the fun started (Insert heavy sarcasm here)

He was 52 1/4" at the widest outside measurement.

These are worth their weight in gold when it comes to Moose hunting:

All pics were with a disposable camera, and I ran out of film 3/4 the way through this pic lol. Back in town getting ready for some skinning:
