Acquired a bit of a beater SKS and figured I'd clean it up and do a little project for the hell of it. Heated stock to get all Cosmo out and then gave it a little boiling water wipe down and then let it dry. The metal I doused in G96 and scrubbed it up then a wipe down dry and a light steel wooling. Another wipe down of everything to make sure it was clean and dry then set it all out to paint. Light coat of primer followed by a coat of high gloss black then another coat of high gloss black a day later. Everything painted/coated except bolt , gas system bits , any springs and bayonet. Let everything dry for a day then reassembled the rifle. Applied hammer and sickle stickers on each side and took it for a quick shoot. All is still good even after shooting and cleaning. I'm not big on restoring/refurbing etc. but figured I'd have a little fun with a refurb beater non matching SKS and do this project. Thanks for looking.

Thanks , I thought the sticker would be a cool addition. I would have liked to get it a bit more centered on the buttstock but a 3" sticker was the smallest I could find so it had to be more towards the end/butt plate.

I like that.

I thought about doing something similar:

Apply sticker, paint over it, peel the sticker then clear coat it. So the hammer&sickle would be "wood grain"

That would look good for sure. I might do a coat of clear coat on it in the future now that you mention that. Seal it all up a little better.

i may not like myself for it but i like it

Lol , thanks and I completely understand. I'm not usually into restore/refurb/alter at all normally. This is my first and it was a beater , non matching refurb and I had the idea in my head so I went with it. I like to keep my milsurps as original as possible normally and all in my collection are but this one. I figured what the hell on this one as I couldn't really devalue it much and did it for kicks.
