So I have a mint old Sako l461 A1 model? thingy.... love it for foxing.. going to put a vx2 3-9x50 on it eventually when I get around too it... but I rekon the barrel is starting to fly them, id like to get it rebarreled one day, whats a little Reloaders cartridge for Foxes - that can be screwed onto this .222 bolt face?

I'm close to town and a 222 is borderline, so I'm thinking of something a bit quietter? but good for fox at say 200-250meters in spotlight.

Thanks
WL

Be a shame to mess up that old classic rifle. I think you're asking a lot [200-250m] with a lesser case than the 222.

Why not just buy a 22 magnum? Be less the cost of a rebarrel but you wont get the range.

yeh I hear u.

it has factory open sights on this barrel.
however, I have a 22 mag, a marlin 882ss fouled like no tomoorow LOL shoots like crap. I'm guna just leave it for my young kid to learn an abuse....

I have pops old BRNO 22 hornet, but feeding it can be expensive..... might be the option though.

I still think the 222 will need a new barrel one day soon, especially if young fella likes th 22 mag so much haha

I built one into a 6mm-223. Should have kept it.... But it's not quieter.

.223 Remington with a 1 - 8" twist. Then load 70 grain Berger VLD bullets to 3000+ fps. Will easily take fox out to 250m, and as long as the barrel job is a good one, will shoot inside .5 MOA at that range.

I have a 20 caliber wildcat that I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a coyote at 400 yds. using the 55 grain Bergers. It's parent case is the 222 Rem, quiet, accurate, easy and cheap to load for.

I have a Sako L46 in .17 fireball,:d single stack magazine, a Sako vixen in .222, floor plate, and a Model 75 in .223

What type of magazine does your L461 have, I kind of wonder, if the fireball will feed well, from a internal mag, if its the same as my vixen is,
I did try .221 fireball in my .223 and it seams to feed well enough, won't extract due to different chamber. Can you get a suppressor in OZ, ? being a Kiwi, this is the way to go.
Likely just as well off, with a .222 or .223, just down load for less noise, ( trail boss powder and a 55gr) you can't step a .221 case, up in power, but can reduce a .222 or .223.
Your in Australia correct, better check component prices and aviablity on .221.

Me Id go 6x45 (.223) I have, a cooper Excalibur, on order.
