Hi, I just bought a SxS 12 gauge for upland hunting, I couldn't find a decent 20 gauge sxs in my price range. I have been thinking about trying the little skeeter bore reducers for the close in shots on grouse, something like 12 to 20 or maybe 12 to 28, anyone know where to find these? thanks.

Browning bought out Little Skeeters a few years ago so any Browning dealer should either have them or be able to order them. When fired the entire unit comes out of the gun so they are not the best choice if you need to reload quickly.

But it is an inexpensive way to shoot another gauge. Here's a link to the Browning info:

FWIW, if you think the 12 gauge is too much for upland instead of going to a set of Little Skeeters you might consider a lighter 12 gauge load. I like 7/8s of an ounce of 7-1/2 for small bird upland shooting in my 12 gauge sxs. For pheasants I use 1 ounce of #6 and haven't felt the need for anything heavier.

Thanks for the suggestion Claybuster, I'm new to bird hunting and didn't realize you could get reduced loads, I'm particulary interested in wing shooting as I went out with a friend last week and it looked like alot of fun. I'll see what I can find around here in the way of ammo.

Little Skeeters

I have a pair of Little Skeeters as sold by Browning that allow me to fire 20 bore shells in my A.H.Fox 12 bore double. Seemed like a great idea however when using them with some old CIL Target loads the hulls are sticking in the adapters and I have to pry them out with my pocket knife. This is a pretty mild load so I was surprised. The "chambers" of my little skeeters are not very smooth however and I may try to polish them up some to see if that helps.

I have used this set up to teach some younger kids to shoot clays and it provides almost no recoil and decent patterns.

Regards,

I went into Canadian tire today and noticed they have Winchester target loads, 7/8 oz #71/2 shot, would this work on grouse? They are very cheap too, only $20 for 100 I think if I read the sign correctly.

They'd work very well on grouse.

I went back to Canadiantire today and I was wrong, I must have been looking at the 20 gauge target loads, the 12 gauge value pack was 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2 shot, but at only 1200 fps.
