Live primer?

Oils do not always deactivate modern primers. I soaked some in kroil and some in wd40 for several days and 80% still went bang. The older reloading books warned of getting oil on primers and though not a great practice in reloading it is not a foolproof method of deactivating primers.

THANKS for posting that the old oil method just don't work anymore.

Why not just dig out the anvil and compound prior to seating and seat as normal?

Any penetrating oil would render the primers inert & the cup cleaned out. The "problem" is no one else would know they are not live rounds.

This subject has been discussed MANY MANY times and it has been well established that oil or water DOES NOT inactivate a primer. PLEASE stop perpetuating this old wives tale.

I guess you just ignored the part about removing the primer compound. "Cup cleaned out" to quote myself.
As for the rest of your post, I'll will do my own testing using various liquids because I don't always take everything I read, hear or see as gospel. Thank you very much.
