I was shooting a new to me Garand today. Functioned fine and a very good shooter. Quite pleased with it. Always brings a smile when that clip ejects.
I was working through a clip, slow firing, and when I pulled the trigger the hammer fell but no bang. Waited a minute, then pulled the bolt back. No shell. I assumed that the bolt hadn't picked up a shell. I let the bolt slam forward and shot the last cartridge.
After I put the gun away, I found a live cartridge on the ground. No marks on the primer. The rim was marked like usual and a couple of minor scratches on the body of the casing. It had obviously gone through the action. I've thought about it and only scenerio I can imagine is that the cartridge was not picked up correctly, was almost a stovepipe but popped right out of the action.
This was with factory UMC ammo. Only problem I had with three clips.
Anyone seen this before - anything I should look for / worry about?
