Is it just me or is the H&K P7M13 (9MM) one of the ugliest pistols ever made? Why are they so expensive and why would anyone want one?

1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
2. They are likely the smallest Canadian-legal pistols - if concealment is your deal.
3. They shoot like a laser.
4. Their safety system is almost idiot-proof.... (highly skilled idiots not withstanding)

To add fuel to the flame... there was a guy on here that bought a new one... than shooting in the cold weather managed to snap his all-plastic trigger in two...

That being said people like them because they are small, and they are supposed to be accurate, but I have not seen any randsom rest tests, so how so is still up in the air.

Ok I get the concealment thing except, well let's face it 99% of people who are looking for concealment must be having some kind of fantasy considering where we live. I do get the beauty being in the eye etc.

They are not the smallest pistol available in Canada. The Glock 26/27 even with the extended barrel is far more concealable and smaller in overall dimensions. Barrel length and subsequently slide length are not of concern when concealing, it is the grip/frame height that is of concern.

As far as beauty goes. Its a tool, designed for a specific role, its not jewelry. Accuracy is a function of the shooter, not the gear. That being said the P7 has a very low bore axis which aids in reducing muzzle flip. The squeeze cocker is revolutionary by design and simple to employ.

P7 180mm x 130mm
G26/27 160mm x 106mm With standard barrel.

The M13 is an abortion made to appease the (American) perceived need for large amounts of 9mm to deal with threats. Totally destroys the balance of the original design.

Gotta go with Ian on this. That squeeze cocker on the front strap looks like a goofy Buck Rogers gun I had as a kid. Guess I like shooting art which is a combination of form and function. Also not too worried about muzzle flip with any of my 9's. Also still can't figure out why people keep talking about concealability in a country where you can't walk around with a gun stashed on your person.

does the op's opinion include the m8 as well or just the 13...In any case I sometimes look at my m8 and find it quite beautiful and elegant but other times I just wanna stick it back in the safe and pretend I never bought it. Honestly I find it to be quite a gimmicky pistol...the whole squeeze #### thing is interesting but not practical and the gun is far from being compact. Its also quite heavy being all steel but very well made...I think Id rather carry a commander 1911 since it likely takes up less volume.

i dont understand why threads like " looking for a gun with 105mm barrel" exist. guns are bigger / heavier the better for target use. this H&K looks pretty aweful to shoot. if you are those odd gun collector then i understand.but what is there to love for guns like G26 fitted with an extended barrel and 2 finger grove grip. that just look even more ridiculous .

I would say I think the squeeze cocker is the issue mostly for me so that applies to both. That being said I respect every shooters right to have whatever turns them on. I must be honest and say I haven't shot one so perhaps if I were to find it nicer to shoot than one of my 1911's full size or Commander I might change my mind but I don't think it would be the case. Especially with how expensive they are.

They are so expensive because they are. For the same reason that Norstinko is so cheap (slave labour, corner-cutting, no environmental concerns with waste product, etc., etc.) - German products are made in one of the most unionized, over-environmentally concerned nations on earth... With some of the best quality control ever.

The P7 is, as already mentioned, the smallest pistol legal in Canada (for some).

If beauty was a requirement for a handgun, then why are Glocks so popular?

To each their own - I find the P7 far too small in my hand, but it IS a neat design.

YMMV

I only handled a PSP model...I used to think are are ridiculasly ugly guns reminded me of a pump flashlight :D but I'd get one of they were cheaper (or if I had more spare cach). Only because I liked how small it was mind you.

So you wouldn't buy it because it's ugly? Look at Glocks, butt ugly, if you want pretty guns look elsewhere. At one time the OPP were putting the P7 through trials, only thing is you better have a strong grip to sustain that squeeze cocker.

I dont find the glock ugly. I think the glock slide is beautiful in its simplicity...the frame however is another story...
