Hi All,

Last month i picked up Ljungman AG42B Swedish semiautomatic rifle in 6.5 x 55. Does anybody own one? I heard it is not safe to fire commercial ammo from it. If you own one what kind of ammo do you use. Reloading is not an option for me. I also heard that it is quite safe to use B&S or Partisan ammo. If you use above mentioned ammo please share your experience.

Thank you.

Welcome to the boards.

A wicked good fire stick you've got there. Everything you ever wanted to know....

The third post goes into some ammo issues... Generally fine with commercial ammo, it was developed to use a fairly hot, fast burning ammo. Also some preference for lightly lubricated ammo I believe.

The manual is going to tell you nothing about what type of ammo to feed. I have heard Privi Partizan ammo works, and I didn't have a issue with the sellier and ballot (other than being too high pressure wise). Overall though like vertually all early semiautos it should be a reload only gun (as no one makes ammo designed for these semi-autos).

If I still had mine (mine was the one with the out of battery detonation) then I would handload trying to replicate the M94 round (no one makes a duplicate commercially at the moment) using the CCI hard primers. A big part of the issue with these rifles is they set it up to take two different pressure rounds with no adjustable gas setting. If you use the more modern style (M41 which is what most modern ammo is based on) it is almost too much for the action, or at the bare minimum too much for the gas setting (the Swedish would actually oil the M41 rounds to make them extract easier).

Thank you.

I've used the Prvi-Partisan 139gr FMJ ammo in the Ljungman, it functions fine. I also know of a fellow that used Federal Fusion 140gr sp ammo. It also functioned fine. If you can find a steady supply of the Prvi_Partisan ammo try and obtain as much as you can afford.
The 6.5x55 round is peculiar in that the solid head area just ahead of the rim is slightly larger in diameter than the those cartridges based on the '06 head size. Problem is, that all North American cartridge manufacturers build 6.5x55 to the '06 head size dimension, and not the larger, (proper) dimension. Prvi-Partisan, Sellier&Bellot, Lapua, Norma, and other European manufacturers build to the proper case dimensions.

All of the Swedish Surplus M41 ammo I've run across was loaded with slow powders and unsuitable for Semi Auto's.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, OIL YOUR AMMO!! I'm not sure why it's mentioned in the Ljungman manual, but oiled ammo increases thrust against the bolt head. Not something you want in the Ljungman, or any other rifle.

More than you asked for, but it's good to know!

Cheers

Thank you very much for all your prompt replies. It helps a lot. Since i'm new with this gun i'm trying to read about it as much as possible. So i come across some post about modification done to gas system. Did anybody tried to modify gas system? Does it worth a try?

One thing you have to watch out for is ammunition labelled 6.5*55 SKAN. Apparently (according to Lapua's reloading info), it is loaded to a much higher pressure rating than the 6.5*55 Swedish Mauser ammo.
