Hoping someone can chime in some knowledge here. A local fellow is selling a Llama Axi. First off I am looking if anyone knows ANYTHING about this model. I can not find a thing. Seller tells me it's a Surplus German police issue. Second it's listed as a 9mm/38 special. I assume they are the same caliber bullet? As the 38 is quite a bit larger cartridge.

It is a 1911 type pistol. Not likely 9mm/38Spl.

Look to see if is marked 9x21. That would be the Luger cartridge. It might be a 9mm Longo, a different and much less useful caliber. It might take 38 Super.

Post some close up pictures.

Thanks. I'm going to check it out Sunday. Tentatively trading a 9mm Norc 1911 for this thing. So thanks to our CFO's the easiest is to just meet at a local range.

9x19 is the 9mm luger

Probably a Llama XIA (11A). Looks like a 1911, in 9mm. Made in spain. Parts a real issue as the company is long gone. Uses a wide base mag which in itself can be a task to locate a spare. I have a few of the Llamas from 22lr up to 45acp and they are notorious for hammer bite if not prepared. Unless you are getting a screaming deal u may not want to get involved..

That'd be 9mm Largo not Longo. Won't be .38 Special. Could be a .38 Super. Like daBear says, 'Axi' isn't right, but there was a IX-A. Manufactured from 1955 to 1985.
This might be of use. Add the W's. .carbinesforcollectors.com/llamapage.html

Give the Llama a wide berth.I had one years ago and it was real junk. The metal was very soft,it was unreliable and now parts and magazines are pretty much impossible to find. I think you would be foolish trading a Norinco 9mm for this gun,the Norinco is way better quality and has much better metal and also parts are readily available.I would guess that this is a model XI which is the 9mm para(the IX is the 45 version).Although the Llama is a 1911 pattern gun, most of its parts are not interchangable with 1911 parts.

Never had any dealings with a semi, But I do have a Llama super Comanche in 44 mag, And I will never part with it, finish is beautiful and locks up like a vault, Very smooth action, even better than my model 66. But as posted above spare parts are unobtainium. So you better be sure you want to do the trade

The .38 Super or .38 Super Automatic (C.I.P. designation) is a pistol cartridge that fires a 0.356-inch-diameter (9.04#mm) bullet. The Super was introduced in the late 1920s as a higher pressure loading of the .38 ACP or .38 Auto. The old .38 ACP propelled a 130-grain (8.4#g) bullet at 1,050#ft/s (320.0#m/s). The improved .38 Super Auto pushed the same 130-grain (8.4#g) bullet at 1,280#ft/s (390.1#m/s).[2] The .38 Super has gained distinction as the caliber of choice for many top pistol match competitors; it remains one of the dominant calibers in IPSC competition.[3]

They made some good guns. They made some not so good guns. As stated, never break one as parts are non existent. I've seen one or two i'd think about purchasing but for the most part, i'd pass. They where better then norinco's, at least the older first generation norinco imports. But i'd take a new norc over a lama these days.

I've got a Llama Omni in 9 mm , it's a heck of a good gun actually . Like others have said though , parts especially mags are pretty much unobtainable . As much a I love shooting mine , because I can't replace things if they break , it pretty much lives in the safe with its two mags . Sad , because I very much enjoy shooting it .
