I've been looking at an lmt upper and was wondering if anybody has any experience with the enhanced carrier and bolt? Mostly if it's worth the extra money?
Con's
-price
- will not work with shorter than 14.5" barrels
- It has not been been proven to be any better
I own two -- and I have noticed not greater reliability with them over a Crane mod'd Crane M4 bolt.
I plan on putting one in BigRed's recce rifle and letting him find out
(kidding)
I brought two to Iraq
One had about 5k and the the other 10k on them already
all from carbines - so if they dont start spitting lugs soon I would say they seem to last longer...
For a civilian usage -- I'd put it in the "I could spend money better elsewhere column)
They where designed for part of the SOPMOD BlockII and III requirments of an enhanced life bolt (due to the suppressor use on the M4A1's in SOCOM the bolts have been blowing out at about 5k [the actual spec life of the M16 bolt] they wanted a bolt that will give rifle lenght life (15-20k)
I blew a Colt bolt (two lugs sheared) at 450rds out of a suppressed gun.
I have another Colt bolt last 6k - and is still running same gun
I have never seen a Colt bolt break in a civilian gun
I would never buy a Non-MP's bolt for a civilian gun
