I'm looking for a good load to fit my .308 Remington SPS Tactical. Does anyone have alot of experience with this rifle? I've recently started reloading and before I spend more money I would like to hear from an experienced shooter. I'd like to take the guess work and trial and error out of my ammo selection. So far I've found reloading quite enjoyable but I don't want to waste any more time or resources on finding the perfect load for my rifle. Right now I'm shooting at 100m from a bench until I work the bugs out.

46 grains of varget
Sierra Palma 155 grain Hollow Point Boat Tail MatchKing
Bench rest primer if you can find them

If your rifle doesn't shoot this load well, it might be cursed.

Varget is absolutely horible in my SPS Tactical. IMR 4064 equally as bad. With all bullets tested, H4895 was by far the best.

155 Berger, 150 Hornady SST, 155 Nosler Custom Competition and 150 Hornady SP all shoot about 1/2 inch with H4895. Varget and 4064 shoot about 2.5 inches.

I don't remember the exact load but its in the low 40's. Not max load as it showed some pressure. All bullets seated to Mag length.

I have had really good luck with Varget and 4064 in other rifles. All had longer, sporter weight barrels. The short SPS Tactical barrel is more tempermental that other 308's i've loaded for.

You need about 46 gr of Varget to push 155 gr bullets. Some rifles/bullets work well with a little jump into the lands and some like more jump. SMK's you can load at mag length but Bergers shoot better loaded with about .020" jump.

I've had great luck with 46 gr of varget pushing 168 gr sierra hpbt in norma brass. So far I have an OAL of 2.82 which fits well within the mag.
Good luck
