Just got some sp83 from a friend and am having a hard time finding anything on it. does anyone no of any good resources for finding reliable load data online? thx

I believe the powder is origionally made by ADI. They supply Hodgdons with Clays and Universal Clays, among other powders. My suspicion is that SP-83 and SP-81 were the acceptance batch Hodgdons got from ADI prior to adopting the line. Rather than package it as canister grade, I believe Higgonsons bought it up as a data powder.

I have lots of the SP-81, and the ammo I've loaded using it has matched very well the charts for AP-70 (Universal Clays). Higginsons sold it suggesting it had a burning rate just a bit faster than Universal Clays.

I can't recall which powder SP-83 was sold as being similar to, but my guess is the powder is actually AP-50 or AP-30.

Shoot me an e-mail address and I'll send you a loading chart ADI used to publish for these three powders.

Here's a burn rate chart from them.

"...made by ADI..." Nothing about SP anything on their site. Trail Boss is one of their's.
SP83 is a milsurp powder that may or may not be sold under a commercial name. You could try Higginson's for data.
