I played around with H4198 and knurelled 265 gr Barnes for a while and was getting 2650 fps. They were just a bit erratic, but thinking back on it that could have just been a warm barrel. Smokeless muzzleloading has a different learning curve. Because of time constraints I went back to 43 grains of SR4759 and a 300 grain SST in short black MMP sabots. Turns out that with 2 rifles, several years, god knows how many deer, and such things as two deer with one shot, and my daughter plastering a bull moose with that load there hasn't been any real good reason to switch.
Something to note when working up loads in a smokeless muzzleloader is cold bore is everything. Its not so much that the barrel minds being lukewarm, but such things can give a plastic sabot fits. A great deal of time can be spent playing with loads, when it is quite possible that the ML would have put 3 cold ones in the same hole. I spent some time chasing my tail, trying to fix something that wasn't broken.
