I'm gearing up to load for an older Winchester 94 in 32 Special. I plan to use the 170 gr Speer bullet to start. One of my powder options is H4895.
Does anyone have experience with this powder in the 32 Special, good or bad?

I have been working on powder coated cast 170 grain with
IMR 4895 in my 32 win spl. Havent settled on an ideal load yet but not bad so far. At the lower end of the scale I was getting unburned powder left in the barrel but perhaps a tighter crimp would fix that. Seems like a good match.

Thanks. I want to use H4895 because of it's versatility and temp stability. Most of the cartridges I already load for or plan to in the future can use it.
I'd rather have two or three different powders on the shelf than 6.

.321 jacketed bullets aren't quite unobtainium just yet, although as far as I know only Speer and Hornady are still making them commercially. The FTX looks interesting, though I'm starting with the Speer offering.

I'm not averse to casting my own if I need to, but it's something I haven't dabbled in. Yet.

In Ken Waters pet loads 34 gr of h4895 & Speer 170gr was the second most accurate load tested. 34 gr h4895 with a Remington corlokt bullet was the most accurate load he tested. I worked up to 34 gr 170gr Speer and it's the most accurate load I've tried in my win94 32 special so far.

Interesting. I have a couple of .32WS. One a carbine, c.1957, and a nice old 1918 rifle. I shall have to dig them out of the pile and give them both a workout. 30-30 and 32WS are great old forgiving cartridges. I love how easily the 94 carbines carry. I do have a third carbine in 32WS that I have put a side mount on, but haven't got around to scoping it. I'll dig out a nice old Weaver for it and give it a whirl, too.

Mine is the 20" barrel version, I guess that makes it a carbine. It belonged to my Dad. I checked the serial number quite a few years ago, it was made in 1958. Nice old gun, too nice to just sit unused in the corner of my safe.
From what I've read, running 30-30 brass through a 32 Spl die turns out serviceable 32 Spl brass, though it may be slightly short.
I should have everything I need to start loading for it in the next couple of weeks.
