Hello:

I stumbled across a 1000 or so pre-primed Peters Blue magic hulls. These hull are brand new have never been loaded, have never been crimped, and as such have no crimp memory.

I have always loaded once-fired hulls and have never had a real issue, however, I have never loaded brand new hulls before, and I am having a heck of a time getting then to crimp properly.

I am using a refitted Ponsness Warren 800c (all plastic parts have been removed and replaced with metal parts - except the wad fingers). I have tried a cone pre-crimp die and that was a disaster. I used the factory 8 crimp star pre-crimp die, but the shell, while the crimp is just barely acceptable, they are hammer headed. There has got to be a better way.

This same setup loads once fired Winchester AA red and silver hulls without issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards and all the best

Richard I had the same thing a number of years ago and what I ended up doing was running them one at a time through the crimp starter on a 375 press, a slow arduous process, but it worked. FS

Mr. Fasstell

Perhaps I need more coffee, however did you do this (running them one at a time through the crimp starter on a 375 press, a slow arduous process, but it worked) prior to load them so they all had a started crimp?? Did you just use the standard 8 start pre-crimper for the pre-loading-crimp, and then as you have a started crimp would not the use of a cone pre-cripmer there after be adviseable??

Did you also pre-heat them?? I have herd about this but not really sure how its done
