Good morning,
I'm looking for any information for loading for this cartridge, such as powder type, charge and how you made your brass. The rifle is a Swedish Rolling Block.
The same info for the .43 Spanish would be nice as well. This rifle is a Remington RB. I've spent some time on YouTube, watched TheKoba49's vids and others. I'm more looking for people's personal experiences.
Thanks, stay safe,
Mike

The go-to for 8x58R is usually this information:
http://dutchman.rebooty.com/rb.html

I've heard some say he's overly conservative but if I want more power I'll use a different rifle. 120+ years later there are lots of options.
The pictures of failed guns is worth thinking about.

I've made brass from 45-70 and 7.62x54R but have done very little shooting still. My bore is quite large so I got the Lee .329" 210gr bullet mold. Some can get by with the more standard .323" bullets.

I don't have my load data anymore, unfortunately, as I sold my Rolling Block and accompanying reloading gear a few years ago but a cheap-ish way for brass is to use 8×56mmR Mannlicher brass.

I have 20 rds of 8x56R brass that's been formed but not fired yet. Also have 20 rds made from stretched 45-70. Buffalo Arms used to sell stretched 45-70 brass to use in the 45-90 I assume this is the case here as the cases are headstamped 45-70 but are way too long for that.
Thank you both for your input.

Check the Cast Boolits site for some excellent discussion on this cartridge. A couple of the contributors there are member here. I’m using 8x56R brass as well and lately have been loading H4198 under a 190 grain Pb bullet from Jet Bullets. I’m still gradually working my way up but I’m getting the best results I’ve seen yet with this combo. The fun factor from the gun and cartridge is huge (for me anyway). My roller is a full military configuration 1874 Carl Gustav, re-barreled in 1891 for the 8x58R cartridge.

Care to share how much H4198 powder you use? I have a mould that drops a .324" 193 gr boolit.

There's a member on Cast Boolits who's also a member here who raised shooting H4198 on a CB thread (again, I highly recommend that you search this one out - you'll know it when you find it...) and the success he had with that powder. I started below his loads at about 23 grains if memory serves. This was too low and I was getting a poor neck seal. Last batch I shot was 25.0, 25.5, 26.0 and 26.5. From my notes, 26.0 was nice and tight and 26.5 brought me pretty much POA at 50 yards. So I'm working in that 26.0 - 26.5 range for now.

I did spend considerable amount of time on the Cast Boolits website, printed a bunch of information. It's like jumping down a rabbit hole....one post has a link to a previous post and so it begins!! Never knowing where you'll end up! it's all good stuff though. I'm enjoying the journey!! Thanks for your help.

Didn't want to "Dead Name" me?

Nothing anywhere near as scandalous as that. I just wasn't sure if you wanted to be dragged into another 8x58R conversation again...but now that you're here! So, OP, that link that Andy has shared (and thanks for finding it/linking it) has a ton of information in it. It was the one I was thinking of...

I have about 20 newly minted rounds that I really want to shoot but I'm waiting for the weather to break here in Calgary. We'll be stuck with -20C highs for about another week or so. I'll post results when I finally get out.

Found my notes...I've got 15 rounds loaded up. H4198 with loads between 25.8 and 26.6 grains. My brass I neck-size with a 325 WSM FL sizing die (Andy's tip). Shooting an 8mm, .325", 190 grain cast bullet from Jet Bullets. I'm seating to just below the 2nd lube groove on this bullet which ends up being pretty close to a caliber's width deep (which is approximately how much I resize the neck). COAL ends up coming out about 2.9"

All of this has motivated me to take my Swedish RB Sporter in 8X58RD out shooting this year!

Concerning the 325 WSM F/L Die for neck sizing - I'm glad it worked for you. I have found that for some 8mm cartridges it leaves the bullet a bit loose. The die is made to specs for the 325 WSM, and for other 8mm cartridges whose specs call for a thinner neck, it will be loose.
