I`m thinking of picking up a Matador optics rail for my bog standard SKS

So how are people reloading with these fitted?

Does the rail lift up allowing access (easily - Ive saw some with what looked like a quick release pin) so stripper clips can be used?

Or can it be loaded from the bottom (never tried)?

Perhaps everyone is using a stock of some kind (I like the Dragunov and Matador) which then accepts magazine negating the problem of loading from the top?

I've got a choate mount and scope set up and use a detachable mag with an extended mag release. Works fine but don't have a choice either. 5 rounds on a ten rnd stripper clip suck any way, as six usually fall in and you have to dump one out. Of course you could set up your clips first, but I dont. I had a short length scope that would not cover the clip guide that worked well too

With bolt closed flip the rifle upside down and open the magazine floor. Lift and hold it and the follower out of the way and toss in 5 rounds. Close bottom of mag. Pull bolt to charge rifle and shoot. You may have to do it a few times to learn where to place the rounds to get then to fit and feed smoothly but that should work if you aren't using a removable mag. Easier than feeding them from above. Try it and see how it goes.

If you can't get a scout mount out of the US, for a red dot this is the second best option, GEN 3 Kwik rail... or if you want a scope, Kwik premium rail ... you'll want the optional quick pin for sure.

Get the adapter put on to be able to use detachable 10 round XCR pistol mags.

This would work good as I have a ton of XCR mags already for my AR15

I know the mag adapter won't work with the Matador Arms Sabertooth kit but does anyone know if I get a Dragunov kit does it work with it?

I appreciate the plugs guys. By the way I am still including a free KwikPin with every rail purchased.

If you decide to go the adaptor route, our combo magazine and adaptor special is still running.

So is the adaptor something that can be installed DIY or is it a gunsmith only deal?

I deem it to be at the advanced end of DIY altho I am sure others will chime in with their opinions on the subject. I did my best to provide good clear pics of the install which you can find in my CGN sub forum.

I note that you are in BC. Siwash Sports in Chilliwack are experienced at doing the installation and are very very reasonable in cost. They are not CGN dealers so I cannot link to them, but a google search will get you there.

Edited to add: your stock will need to be opened up to install the adaptor whether its the original wood stock or an aftermarket plastic stock.

For what it's worth, even if you have the gen2 kwik rail there's is plenty of room to manually load rounds by hand. I thought it would be an issue but it was not but with the angle of the built in deflector over the mag opening you have lots of space to hand load rounds.

Just to be clear - this is the Magwedge rail you're referring to?

So is there a built in deflector?

I would agree with MagWedge here, advanced end of DIY even if you have experience. It's not that difficult, but you do need the know how and tools (if all you have is a rotary tool, eek, but it will work)..

I`m a tradesman with 20+ years and am armed to the teeth with tools but this mag conversion looks like it could ideally use a mill for the best results

Its a tough call - I`d either go Dragunov stock and 10 round conversion (thats what I`m leaning towards) or Sabertooth stock and 5 round mags

The Sabertooth stock is expensive particularly when you consider the value of the gun it`ll be mated too but by the time I`d do a full Dragonov & 10 round mag conversion I`d be looking at similar cash

But then I`d have 10 rounds between reloads......

Anyone know if the Dragunov stock can be found in black?

I`d swear I`ve seen it in black but most places I look which offer them for sale have another blackish looking colour (can't remember the name) but its not a true black

I know I shouldn't think about it this way, but if the 10/22 magazine saga spills over to the XCR mags too and they have to be pinned to 5 is there any point in doing the conversion?

How likely is this move by our Liberal overlords?

Stumbled across a black ATI Dragunov stock today for the SKS, fitted it tonight - I like it, feels solid and well proportioned

I also picked up a couple of Tapco Intrafuse magazines but I find them hard to install/remove and - worst of all - they don't hold the bolt open on the last round so I`m gonna try to return them tomorrow

Are there any other magazines out there which are compatible and do hold the bolt open on the last round?
