I have an SKS-D and have a very hard time in loading the magazine. Often it will click in but will not chamber a round when bolt is pulled back and released.

Does anyone have any advice, tricks to use.

Thanks

assuming that these are pinned to 5 round mags try loading it with 4 rounds....sounds dumb but that was the problem i had with mine. one of my 30 rounder's is pinned just off so 5 rounds will go in the mag but the gun wont strip the first one into the chamber, i also have the same problem with one of my 5/10 mags. let me know if that works.

put the front of the mag in the rifle first then pull back and up to lock the rear in. somtimets it will lock in with the front to far down.

I have a Norinco SKS-D that had big problems stripping the rounds out of the magazine. I found that the face on the bottom of the receiver where the mag. butts up against is a bit thick. I filed a flat on the top of the feed lips where it locates against the receiver and it feeds without a problem now. I didn't have to remove very much.

I have the same problem. As the action doesn't "hold open" at all, one has to hold it open manually while at the same time inserting the magazine, which is a total pain. May try the 4-round idea.

Surely you don't have to hold the bolt back? That sounds like it could be dangerous (with a slip and a slam fire) sounds like you need three hands. I realize there is no last shot open but can't you just engage a newly filled mag then pull the bolt back and let 'er fly? I've put empty mags in with the bolt closed so I figured there should be no problem with a full mag. Can you load an AK mag off a stripper clip? I just got an SKS D and I haven't shot it yet.Now that Christmas and all is over I hope to change that soon. Thanks Pete

Three Hands for the SKS

I do need three hands. The mag just won't fully engage without the bolt back, otherwise I get the "click" and have to start again from scratch :(

Well, that's interesting! I hold on to my other SKSs tight and jam the stock on my leg when I put her into battery. You never know- even with good maintenance. I hope this isn't the norm. I don't have three hands either!!!

FMJ...the magazine takes quite a bit of fiddling to get in right. When I've done it with the bolt closed, working the action doesn't chamber a round. If the damn thing would only hold open like the VZ, wouldn't have this problem.

Hm, odd.. Do the bolt carrier and bolt lock into an open position after emptying the mag in the SKS-D with the factory magazine?

I've never had a problem with loading 5rd mags into the D. If the mags aren't seating fully or rounds aren't chambering then there is definitely something wrong.

Yeah you're right, all SKS D are last shot closed. And you shouldn't have to hold the bolt open. The spring in the mag should allow you to push the loaded mag right into the well, depressing the top round. When the bolt is pulled back, the top round is pushed up enough by the spring to be caught with the falling bolt and chambered. I noticed too that the mags take a bit of fiddling to seat right. The trick seems to be to seat the front and use some force to pull it to the rear and lock. Large cap would make it easier as you have more area to grab and leverage The only good thing I see with the D is the ability to have a large cap mag for looks. But I think if you had a bunch of loaded mags on hand, you could give the stripper clip a run for the money"

Just an update to this post. The problem in this situation is that there is not enough room between the bottom of the follower and the pin. Dremel an 1/8th" or so off the bottom of the follower. This will allow some room for the spring to work and allow the top round to press down on the bottom side of the bolt! Trust me I did it and no more problems, just don't take off too much or you'll have a six round mag, and we know what that means:eek:
