Not sure if this is the correct forum. Looking for some knowledgable advice on what bullet type, weight and load to use in my AR that I am building. It will have a JP 18 inch barrel 1-8 twist. Want to shoot accurately out to 300 yds. I have been reloading for 40 yrs, alot of pistol and for my varmint 22-250 PD hunting in the States. Rather than reinvent the wheels tell me what works for you.
Thanks for looking
Rob

If you run this on a progressive and the same charge thrower as the pistol setup, use ball powder and short extruded powder for less frustration. H335 is a good choice for 68 and 69 gr . Benchmark is a good short extruded for 77gr.

My "under 400" load is 25.5 benchmark and a 50gr nosler BT..... With this particular bullet, winds above 20kph really push it around. In gusty conditions 300y shots are very tough indeed...... But that is likely more my fault than the bullets!

I built an accurate AR that sports a 20" Kreiger 1:9. I have done a few ladder tests at 300y with heavier 75gr swift siccoros(sp?) but I have yet to finalise that load.....

I don't generally shoot past 300 with my restricted rifle(s) as the closest 300+ ranges is several hours away and there is a 200y facility 3km away.... The 300y facility is 40 min, so I do get there occasionally...

77gr SMK and 22.8 grains of IMR 8208XBR and CCI #41 primers. Switched from Varget when I started loading for 223 on the Dillon, it meters very well. Varget shot really well, ran about a half grain more.
