My lee manual has a section for the warmest 45 70 loads with the suggestion for use in only Ruger single shot or bolt guns.

Is this saying the Browning or the Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter single shot 45 70's are less strong?

While i can't speak for the manufacturers I can say that those same guns, house cartridges with pressures much higher then even the "45/70 Ruger loads" in manuals. From a practical standpoint, both these guns are light and I don't think a steady diet of heavy loads would be enjoyable or bring out the best in one's shooting.

There should be 3 or 4 lists for the 45-70 typs rifles for you to pick from

1- trap door
2- rolling block typs high(brownings) walls or modern firearms, 94s or Marlins
3- Ruger #1 falling blocks or Bolts
4- Cowboy actions BP velocity loads.

I was told that a hindge break action is strong however if loaded up may loosen the hinge pin and make it sloppy over time.

Never owned a TC becides my Buff-Classic. Never owned a 45-70 Bolt either

45/70

In the same vein- I have a new BLR, these are chambered in magnum calibres that have 50,000 psi i.e. 300 WM, 325 mag,m etc. Yet in my 450 marlin I am being told to hold to much lower pressures. Why is htis?

The SAAMI maximum average pressure (MAP) for the .450 Marlin is 43,500 psi. and loading to levels 10% higher is not advisable. Greater pressures may be safe in your rifle but then again they may not. The rifle may fail dramatically or it may suffer accelerated wear. It also may function perfectly. In any case I would not want to take the recoil generated by a 50,000 psi load in a BLR! LoL ;) .

I load for TRAPDOOR and a MARLIN.....The trapdoor can not take high pressure.. Some books say below 18,000 is best. Marlin is around 40,000. But Ruger is near to 458 WIN MAG levels.

Hornady has loads listed for all 3 styles. Lyman also lists different loads.

Do not use high pressure in Trapdoor rifles they are weak compared to Marlins.
