Loctite® 567™ Thread Sealant?

Is this stuff any good to secure scope bases? Or is it useless? Can't do any harm can it?

Can't find my red Loctite and have a sample tube of this 567 stuff I got at a marine trade show.

Company info says:

"Loctite® 567™ Thread Sealant with PTFE is a general purpose instant sealer for tapered and straight/tapered fittings. "

Or do you really need any kind of sealant/adhesive for scope bases? I mean regular old-fashioned Weaver bases.

Take a gander at what the break strength is for it. Sometimes they require heat to remove. Compare to Red Loctite before proceeding.

You want blue loctite common as old hell can get it at a buss stop. Purple lo strength would be a good choice also.
There will be lots at Can Tire

If I recall, it's a sealant like pipe dope. Go to Can tire and get some blue. Personally I have never used Loctite on a scope base and never had one come loose, not even my 375 H&H

567 is npt (national pipe thread) sealant. It's not a threadlocker, would recommend against using it.

567 is for high temperature sealing of stainless threaded fittings.

Purple = low strength or small fasteners. 8-32 ect like the ones on your bases

Blue = med strength or medium fasteners. 5/16 and up. The best choice for bases and rings IMO

Red = high strength. Sets up hard and needs heat to remove. Basically no use to anyone except very specific jobs.

Yeah that stuff is fluid pipe sealant (liquid teflon tape) not a thread locker, it's probably white or black; don't get it on your hands or clothes it sticks to and stains about anything. On a side note try to use the proprietary number system or read application marked on the bottle when it comes to thread locker don't depend on the colour. When you switch brands or applications they may use the same colour for a very different application i.e: locktite med strength wicking grade is the same green as their retaining compound; Permatex's super sealer and thread locker I believe is black/purple.
